The Canadian Working Group for HIV and Rehabilitation (CWGHR) warmly welcomes Judy Gould as Director of Research and Education – a newly created position at CWGHR.

Judy Gould received her MA in Community Psychology in 1994 and her PhD in Social Psychology in 2002. Between 2003 and 2007 she was the director of the Ontario Breast Cancer Community Research Initiative, an entity focused on understanding the health system inequities and post-treatment experiences of marginalized communities of women with breast cancer.

Her qualitative and community-based research focused on understanding the lived experiences of lower-income women and young women with breast cancer. She is also the co-editor of the newly released book: Cancer on the Margins: Method and Meaning in Participatory Research (University of Toronto Press, 2009).

Holding a primary status appointment with the University of Toronto (Department of Public Health Sciences) Judy brings to the HIV rehabilitation research and education agenda her critical focus of exploring the experience of ‘living with’ a disease, the systemic inequities that can exacerbate already difficult circumstances and participatory stakeholder processes.

The creation of this new position of Director of Research and Education is an important development at CWGHR and we are thrilled to have Judy working with us. We look forward to continued and enhanced opportunities for collaboration with our partners and colleagues to advance research and education in the field of HIV, disability and rehabilitation.
